“I” or “Me”?
When referring to yourself and others, take the
others out of the sentence. This will show you which word is correct.
For example, which is correct?
1. George Clooney and I went to Vegas.
2. George Clooney and me went to Vegas.
Take young George out of the sentence (such a pity)
and see which version makes sense:
1. I went to Vegas.
2. Me went to Vegas.
If you answered “2” you’ve been spending too long
watching Tarzan movies!
The correct word to use here is, of course, “I”.
Let’s look at another example:
1. The bus driver helped Agnes and I with our
shopping. (Strange but true!)
2. The bus driver helped Agnes and me with our
shopping.
Taking Agnes out of the sentence (she’s late for
Bingo anyway) we get:
1. The bus driver helped I with my shopping.
2. The bus driver helped me with my shopping.
The correct word to use here is “me”.
Basically, just make it all about you and you won’t
go wrong!
